Gin was born and raised in Waldron, AR. where she developed the strong values of faith, family, and compassion that remained with her throughout her life. She was a devoted member of House of Restoration in Fort Smith and found great joy in her church family and her faith.
Above all else, Gin treasured her family. She was known for her selfless heart, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She possessed a wonderful sense of humor and had a special gift for making others laugh, brightening even the ordinary moments with her wit and warm spirit.
Her greatest joy was being “Nana.” She never missed an opportunity to support her grandchildren, especially at their sporting events, where she proudly earned the affectionate nickname “Dugout Nana.” Often times she could be heard yelling and leading cheers from the bleachers in support of her grandkids.
She is survived by her two daughters, Tammy Winfrey and husband Daniel of Fort Smith, Arkansas, and Tina Johnson of Fort Smith, Arkansas; two grandsons, Eric White and Kyle Borchers; one granddaughter, Aleigha Johnson; four brothers, Dearl Hunt and wife Pat, Garry Hunt and wife Francis, Kenny Hunt, and Bill Hunt; along with numerous extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Martha Hunt; her husbands, Harvey Spangler and Quinton Johnson; and her brother, Calvin Hunt.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kyle Borchers, Kenny Hunt, Garry Hunt, Bill Hunt, Eric White, and Daniel Winfrey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dearl Hunt, Billy W. Hunt, Kevin Gary, and Chris Hunt.
Gin will be remembered as a loving mother, devoted Nana, cherished sister, faithful friend, and a woman whose selfless heart touched countless lives. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering support for her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Funeral service for Virginia “Gin” Mae Spangler, 77, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at House of Restoration in Fort Smith, Arkansas, with Ricky Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at Union Hill Cemetery in Waldron, Arkansas, under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.
Viewing and visitation will be held Monday, August 3, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Evans & Miller Chapel in Pocola, Oklahoma.
