NORMAN — No. 13 Oklahoma dropped its first game of the season Tuesday evening to Arizona State by a final of 15-3 in seven innings.
After a scoreless first inning, the Sun Devils (8-0) took advantage of the Oklahoma wind blowing out at over 20 miles per hour, putting up an eight spot in the second inning before a six-run third en route to the win. The Sun Devils hit three two-run home runs in the second and a three-run shot in the third.
The OU relief pitchers settled in and worked three straight scoreless innings from the fourth through sixth before ASU added its 15th and final run at the top of the seventh.
Junior transfer Nolan Stevens hit his first home run as a Sooner on a two-run shot down the right line in the second inning. Fellow junior Jaxon Willits hit his first home run of the season on a solo shot to left in the fourth. The Sooners (7-1) loaded the bases in the fourth, but a strikeout and popup ended the threat.
OU used six pitchers on the night with sophomore starter Michael Catalano (L, 0-1) taking the loss in two innings pitched. Senior Reid Hensley fanned four in 2.2 innings of scoreless work while sophomore transfer Trent Collier struck out a pair in an inning and a third.
