RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the baseball players of the week for the final week of the 2024 season. Northwestern Oklahoma State’s Chad Green and Oklahoma Baptist’s Troy Shields shared Player of the Week. Arkansas-Monticello’s Charles Peacock and Henderson State’s Payton Byrd split Pitcher of the Week.
#theGAC BASEBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Chad Green, DH, Northwestern Oklahoma State, Jr., La Habra, California
Green reached base 15 times in 19 plate appearances as the Rangers picked up three wins. In a non-conference triumph against Rogers State, he collected two hits and a pair of RBI. In Friday’s doubleheader against Southwestern Oklahoma State, he went 8-for-8 highlighted a cycle and five RBI in game two. In the opener, he doubled twice and scored three runs.
#theGAC BASEBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Troy Shields, C/DH, Oklahoma Baptist, Sr., El Dorado Hills, California
Shields smashed five home runs and drove in 13 as the Bison dominated Northeastern State and Southern Nazarene by an aggregate 56-11 margin. Against the RiverHawks, he clubbed three home runs and tallied a school-record nine RBI. In the series sweep of the Crimson Storm, he went 6-for-11 with two home runs, four RBI and six runs scored.
#theGAC BASEBALL CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Charles Peacock, SP, Arkansas-Monticello, Sr., Dickinson, Texas
Peacock saved his best start of the season for his last when he threw 7.0 shutout innings against Southern Arkansas on Saturday. He limited the Muleriders to just three hits and matched his season-high with 12 strikeouts. He finished the regular season with 84 strikeouts in 53.2 innings of work. He ranks second Division II in strikeouts per nine innings, 14.09.
#theGAC BASEBALL CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Payton Byrd, RP, Henderson State, Jr., Warren, Arkansas
Byrd collected a win and a save as the Reddies earned a series win against rival Ouachita Baptist and secured the No. 4 seed for the upcoming GAC Championships. In the second game of the series, he pitched a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts for his fourth save of the season. He struck out five of the six batters he faced in the finale as the Reddies rallied for a 3-2 win.
