RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. –  On Wednesday, the Great American Conference named Harding’s record-setting basketball star Sage Hawley as its 2024-25 Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Hawley became the fourth Lady Bison honored as Female Scholar Athlete of the Year, The four winners match East Central for the most honorees in league history. She joins fellow former basketball standouts Kristen Celsor and Arielle Saunders, who won in 2013-14 and 2014-15, respectively. Anna Kay Clark, a track & field All-American, claimed the award last year.

In 2025, she garnered her second College Sports Communicators Academic All-America honor. Hawley, a graduate student, owned a 3.79 GPA in Information Systems.

On the court, she earned Tournament MVP honors as she led the Lady Bisons to their first GAC Championship since 2017. She became a two-time All-American after she finished her career as just the third player in NCAA Division II history with at least 2,300 points and 1,300 rebounds.

Other nominees for the 2024-25 GAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Year award included Arkansas-Monticello’s Kyann Woods (Softball), Arkansas Tech’s Mackenzie Epperson (Cross Country/Track & Field), East Central’s Taylor Spence (Softball), Henderson State’s Bobbi Bazzle (Basketball), Northwestern Oklahoma State’s Ashley Low (Volleyball, Softball and Track & Field), Oklahoma Baptist’s Sophia Strange (Cross Country/Track & Field), Ouachita Baptist’s Abbey Moore (Soccer), Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Emma Berry (Track & Field), Southern Arkansas’ Marlee Bright (Basketball), Southern Nazarene’sHannah Giddey (Basketball) and Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Anna Bager (Soccer).
