NORMAN – University of Oklahoma head men’s basketball coach Porter Moser announced the addition of Ty Terrell to the staff as director of men’s basketball strength and conditioning on Friday.
Terrell joins the Sooners after two years as the senior director of athletic performance for the Washington Wizards, Mystics and Capital City Go-Go – the G League affiliate of the Wizards. Before his move to Washington, he spent five years as the assistant performance coach for the Atlanta Hawks, working with Oklahoma director of player development and assistant coach Paul Jesperson.
“Ty brings a tremendous amount of experience from the highest level after spending the last seven seasons between the Atlanta Hawks and Washington Wizards, and knows what it takes to make our student-athletes NBA ready,” said Moser. “Our vision and values are aligned, and I am excited for him to make an immediate impact with our student-athletes. We are excited to welcome him to our OU family.”
While in the nation’s capital, he oversaw all facets of game day, practice and postgame routines and implemented offseason training programs. Terrell collaborated with additional areas of support, including nutrition, mental health and sleep specialists, further developing a holistic approach to athlete welfare.
Terrell graduated from Concordia University Chicago in 2021 with a bachelor’s in kinesiology. In addition to his NBA experience, he worked for Lee Taft Speed Academy (2008-09), True Athletic Development (2009-13), Henry County YMCA (2012-12) as the director of wellness, Indy 11 of the United Soccer League (2013-14), Point Guard College (2015) and the Indianapolis Fitness and Sports Training as a performance coach (2013-18).
“After speaking with the basketball staff at Oklahoma, it was clear that the program has excellent people, a defined vision and an abundance of resources,” said Terrell. “I am thrilled to work with Porter Moser and the rest of the staff to develop and help our student-athletes grow on and off the court. I am thankful for the opportunity and excited to get to work.”
