BERKELEY, Calif. – Freshman Nathan Roman registered the nation’s highest score on parallel bars and contributed to Oklahoma’s four individual conference titles, as the OU men’s gymnastics team won its 21st MPSF Championship on Saturday in Haas Pavilion. The top-ranked Sooners posted a 332.100 team total to defeat No. 3 Stanford (327.200), No. 8 California (317.750) and No. 13 Air Force (303.800).

Roman won the parallel bars title with his career-high 14.700, redshirt senior Fuzzy Benas won the vault title with his stuck 14.350, junior Nico Hamilton claimed the horizontal bar title with his career-high 14.300 and redshirt freshman Colby Aranda earned the pommel horse title with his 14.150. Benas’ conference title was the third of his career and second on vault (also won vault in 2022 and parallel bars in 2025). Roman, Hamilton and Aranda each won their first individual MPSF titles.

In winning its second straight MPSF Championship, Oklahoma reset the nation’s high score again with its 332.100 and now owns the top three team totals in the country this season. Stanford and California also posted season-high scores on Saturday.

All 21 of Oklahoma’s MPSF titles have come since the 1999 season, and OU has won 20 of those championships under head coach Mark Williams, who is in his 27th season leading the Sooners (he was an assistant coach when OU won its first MPSF title in 1999). This is also Oklahoma’s 29th all-time conference championship, including eight Big Eight titles between 1977 and 1996.

“I’m super proud of them,” Williams said. “They were fabulous. That was the first meet that we’ve hit 100% of our routines. Fuzzy started the meet off with a stuck vault that ended up winning the event and that set the tone. Everybody else was having to chase us at that point and we didn’t open the door.”

The Sooners won three team events, posting a 54.950 on pommel horse, a season-high 56.150 on parallel bars and a 55.150 on high bar. OU scored a season-high 55.700 on floor exercise, a 54.450 on still rings and a 55.700 on vault.

Freshman Sasha Bogonosiuk scored a career-high 14.300 on floor exercise to earn second and Benas earned a fourth-place finish with a 14.050. Senior Ignacio Yockers scored 14.000 to finish second on pommel horse. Junior Tas Hajdu earned fourth on still rings (13.850) and Bogonosiuk posted a career-high 14.050 for fourth. Senior Kelton Christiansen placed third on high bar with a 13.950 and Benas earned fourth with a 13.500.

In all, Oklahoma gymnasts set four career highs, notched eight scores of 14.000 or better and put together five routines with a 9.0 or better execution score.

The Sooners now turn their attention to NCAA Championships, which will be held April 17-18 in Champaign, Ill. NCAA Championship selections are expected to be announced next week.
