RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the men’s soccer players of the week for the final week of the 2024 season. Roger State swept the awards as Marcos Vasallo claimed Offensive Player, Alex Laing garnered Defender and Declan Viljoen earned Goalkeeper of the Week.

#theGAC/MIAA MEN’S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Marcos Vasallo, F, Roger State, Sr., Madrid, Spain
Vasallo led the Hillcats to a 2-0 record on the road with wins against Northeastern State and Ouachita Baptist. In the 1-0 victory against the Riverhawks, he scored the game winning goal in the 56th minute. Against the Tigers, the senior earned the assist on the game winning goal in the sixth minute and then scored the final match’s two goals in the 4-0 win.

#theGAC/MIAA MEN’S SOCCER DEFENDER OF THE WEEK – Alex Laing, D, Rogers State, Jr., London, England
Laing anchored a Hillcat defense that registered consecutive shutouts that gave Rogers State a share of the GAC/MIAA regular-season title. In the 1-0 win against the RiverHawks, the defense forced the Riverhawks into only five shots on goal. Against Ouachita Baptist, the Hillcats surrendered just four total shots and only one on goal as part of the 4-0 win.

#theGAC/MIAA MEN’S SOCCER GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK – Declan Viljoen, GK, Rogers State, Sr., Auckland, New Zealand
Viljoen registered 173 shutouts in the Hillcats’ victories against Northeastern State and Ouachita Baptist. He collected his fifth shutout of the season and notched four saves against the RiverHawks. He played 83 minutes, with one save, as part of a combined shutout against the Tigers.
