TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The top-ranked Oklahoma men’s golf team is set to open its spring season and chase for a third national championship on Friday when it tees off in the Seminole Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,965-yard Golden Eagle Golf and Country Club.
The Seminole Intercollegiate will feature five teams ranked inside the top 25, including No. 1 Oklahoma. The Sooners ascended into the nation’s top spot on Feb. 12 after closing the fall season ranked second. The Sooners have finished inside the top five in 17 of their last 18 events, amassing four wins during that stretch dating back to 2018.
“We are looking forward to being back in action this week after a long winter break,” head coach Ryan Hybl said. “Our guys are hungry to get going, and we are thankful that Florida State gave us an opportunity to come down this week and compete after our cancelation last week in Houston.”
The Sooners’ lineup has played a combined 328 rounds of golf and boasts two All-Americans, in addition to three players ranked inside Golfweek’s top 20.
Quade Cummins will lead Hybl’s team once again and is ranked third nationally. The All-American redshirt senior is sixth in the PGA Tour U rankings, one spot shy of automatic status on the Korn Ferry Tour. His 111 rounds played in college are second on the team only to Jonathan Brightwell. Cummins’ career scoring average of 71.31 is the second-lowest in Oklahoma history.
Cummins is joined at the top of the lineup by fellow All-American Garett Reband, who returns to the Oklahoma lineup in a traditional lineup for the first time since the 2020 spring season. Reband set the program scoring record last season, firing a 69.39 and earning All-American status. The redshirt senior sits one spot behind Cummins in the PGA Tour U rankings.
Thomas Johnson will notch his 50th career round this weekend as the redshirt senior claims the third bag for the Sooners in Tallahassee. The redshirt senior and Norman native played in two events for Oklahoma in the fall, earning a T13 at the Maridoe Intercollegiate.
Logan McAllister, ranked 19th nationally, grabs the four bag for the Sooners. The junior will be making just his 10th appearance for Hybl’s team, but the Oklahoma City product has collected a pair of wins and has finished inside the top 20 in five of his last six events.
Junior Patrick Welch is set to make his first appearance since winning the East Lake Cup in October. The No. 7 player in the country owns the school record for scoring (71.16) and was an honorable mention All-American as a freshman.
