Press Release
NORMAN – For the second consecutive year, Garett Reband is a semifinalist for the prestigious Ben Hogan Award, given annually to the nation’s most outstanding golfer.
Reband, a redshirt senior and All-American from York, S.C., owns one of the most prolific careers in Oklahoma men’s golf history, possessing the program records for single-season and career scoring averages. He is ranked seventh nationally by Golfstat and rose as high as No. 3 as a junior, the highest-ever ranking for a Sooner.
“It’s truly an honor to been named a semifinalist for the Hogan Award,” Reband said. “To be in the conversation for the nation’s best is awesome and it shows that all my hard work over the last couple of years has paid off and allowed me to play a high level pretty consistently.”
Reband has helped guide Oklahoma to a consensus No. 1-ranking this season entering postseason play and has risen up the PGA Tour U rankings, currently sitting second nationally. The top five players in the rankings earn automatic status on the Korn Ferry Tour after graduation.
“To be selected as a semifinalist for the Ben Hogan Award is such an honor and it puts Garett in an elite group of players,” head coach Ryan Hybl said. “He’s done such a great job in his career here in Norman and he’s finishing in a great fashion. We are all so proud of him.”
The Ben Hogan Award is issued annually in June to the top men’s NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA college golfer taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during the past 12-month period. The award’s selection committee, which votes during each stage of the process, is made up of more than two dozen leaders and experts in professional, amateur and collegiate golf.
On Thursday, May 13, the group of semifinalists will be pared down to three finalists. The three finalists will travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to attend a luncheon at Colonial Country Club on Friday, June 4, where the winner will be crowned.
Reband and the Sooners will put their No. 1-ranking on the line on April 26-28 when they travel to Prairie Dunes Country Club for the Big 12 Championship.
