Monroe, La. – The Oklahoma State softball team kicked off its 2021 season with a 12-11 victory over No. 18 Arkansas.
The Cowgirls got off to a hot start offensively, scoring 10 runs in the first four innings. Arkansas then found a rhythm and made things interesting down the stretch, taking an 11-10 lead in the sixth inning.
Oklahoma State plated two runs to retake the lead in the top of the seventh inning before LHP Kelly Maxwell came in and closed the door on the Razorbacks.
The Cowgirls were led on offense by Michaela Richbourg who sent two balls out of the park on the day (2-for-3, two home runs and 3 RBI), newcomer Jordan Doggett who garnered her first hits in the Orange and Black (3-for-4, 2 RBI), and returning All-American Alysen Febrey (2-for-4, one home run, 2 RBI).
Kelly Maxwell got the win for the Cowgirls after coming on in relief of Logan Simunek. The lefty shut down the Razorbacks in her 1.1 innings of work, tallying four strikeouts in route to the win.
The Cowgirl softball team is back in action tomorrow at 1:15 p.m. against Lipscomb and at 3:30 against Louisiana Tech.
