RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s third Men’s Soccer Player of the Week awards of the 2021 spring season. Southern Nazarene’s Nathaniel Mederos captured Offensive Player of the Week; Northeastern State’s James Doyle earned Defender of the Week and Rogers State’s Dillon Dean garnered Goalkeeper of the Week.

GAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Nathaniel Mederos, Southern Nazarene, M, Jr., Asuncion, Paraguay
Mederos scored twice in the Crimson Storm’s historic upset against No. 13 Fort Hays State. His goal in the 69th minute gave Southern Nazarene a 2-0 advantage. Following a Tiger response two minutes later, he scored in the 75th minute to re-establish a two-goal lead. The win represented Southern Nazarene’s first win against a nationally-ranked team since joining Division II.

GAC DEFENDER OF THE WEEK – James Doyle, Northeastern State, D, Sr., Merseyside, England
Doyle recorded the equalizer for the RiverHawks in the 80th minute of their contest against Newman for his third goal of the season. Northeastern State went on to win the game in the second minute of overtime. The RiverHawks held the Jets to just
nine shots, five on target.

GAC GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK – Dillon Dean, Rogers State, Sr., Mustang, Oklahoma
Dean collected the fourth GAC/MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week honor of his career as he helped the Hillcats improve to 3-0 for just the second time in the last 14 seasons. He made a pair of saves in Saturday’s 4-2 win against Ouachita. The Hillcats sit as the final undefeated team in the conference.
