According to the report filed by OHP, an aircraft fatality collision occurred August 17, 2023, at 10:33 PM about a quarter of a mile north of US Highway 271 and a tenth of a mile east of Poteau River. The collision involved a Moster 185 Paraglider operated by Jerry Hayes of Pocola. Mr. Hayes was pronounced dead at the scene by LeFlore County Sheriff’s Department. Medical Examiner Weston Brewer.
The cause of the accident was still under investigation at the time of the report.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Cody Jackson with the assistance of Trooper Michael Scantling LeFlore County Sheriff’s Department, Pocola Police Department, Pocola Fire Department, Oklahoma Game Warden and Medical Examiners Office.
