Experience some great sounds of Live Music in our area. Folks my age(older than dirt) need to use caution because the hot temps are a hazard to us. But with just a lil’ planning and extra water, there are several events to enjoy. So find some shade, they are fun for the whole family and y’all get out and Support Live Music. One of the biggest events will be Friday 28th and Sat.29th over in Ft Smith.

The Peacemaker Music Festival has a super lineup of artists. “Shane Smith and the Saints”, “Marcus King”, “Muscadine Bloodline” and a dozen more. Ain’t many Rhinestone Nudie Cowboy outfits in this crowd. It’s kinda like the Outlaw Country movement of the “70’s”, ya know, Waylon and Willie- Hank Jr. and David Allen. High energy bands- awesome originals in one of the best event venues down by the river- Ark. River that is. Tickets went fast, call about availability before ya go. Giving the headliners a listen, I hear more Nitzinger/Outlaws/ZZTop than Ferlin Husky and Carl Perkins. You will not be disappointed. Friday 28the and Sat. 29th, just down the road in Altus, Ark. it’s the Grape Festival. From grape-stompin’ to cloggin’, lots of good food, activities for the whole family. There’s an Amateur Winemaking Contest, I wonder if they need judges?

And music from 5 til 10pm or so on Friday with “The Libby Starkes Band” as headliner at 8:30. Then it all starts again on Sat. from 9 am til 6 pm. It’s all out at Altus City Park. “Two for Tuesday” on the 25th! “Vida Brooks and High Mt. Bluegrass” will play at the Pocola Senior Activity Center from 10 am til Noon. They are a favorite here. AND the lunch is always good. Then, “The Al Grzech Band” will start at 6:30 pm on Tuesday 25th at the LeFlore County Museum at the Lowery Hotel on Dewey Ave. Downtown Poteau. The concert is free and beverages and snacks are available. Al Grzech/piano, David Hoffpauir/guitar and Dale Fraze Sr./drums play a couple of sets of Jazz classics and pop tunes that feature each musician on improv solos. They are sometimes joined by a guest vocalist or horn. This event is hosted by David and Donna Deaton and the LeFlore County Historical Society. Beautiful Hotel Lowery, Awesome music in one of America’s best small towns in the shadow of Cavanal Hill. Who could ask for anything more?

“Live Wire” will be at La Heurtas on Garrison Ave. Thursday 27th. Felisha McKenzie fronts the band and the singer can Wail. Catch their show at about 7 pm.

Speaking of the “Libby Starkes Band” , she is singing at The Deck in Cookson on Lake Tenkiller, this Thursday 27th from 6 pm. The Altus Grape Festival on Friday 28th. Then, a lil’ closer to her home at the Sallisaw VFW from 8 til ? on Sat 29th. Dawn’s Diner/Red Oak will have “Make It a Double”/Connie and Dave Abbott playing for the Friday 28th dance. “The Stagemasters” will play Sat. 29th. Great Country Dance music to go with the awesome food. Music starts at 6 pm both nites.

Crocky’s Cafe/Hackett, Ark. serves up two different menus of music with the same menu offine grubs. Friday 28th, “Common Thread Bluegrass” will be on stage, Then, “Uncle Fudge” will be there Sat 29th. Bluegrass to Blues and Rock.. See ya at Crocky’s! Music starts at 6 pm both nites.

That ain’t all I got to say BUT it’s a good play to stop. Much more music to kick off the month of August. Watch for info in the Poteau Daily News- Heavener Ledger Online-Oklahoma Welcome online on Tuesday. Contact me at 918-649-5736 or tj.wiles61@outlook.com. Thanks!
