STILLWATER, Okla. — April 29, 2026 — Special Olympics Oklahoma has named Kodey Toney of Panama as its 2026 Volunteer of the Year, one of the organization’s highest honors recognizing outstanding dedication, selflessness, and service to athletes with intellectual disabilities.
Each year, this prestigious award is presented to a volunteer who consistently exemplifies an extraordinary commitment to supporting Special Olympics athletes and advancing the mission of inclusion through sports. Toney was selected for demonstrating a high level of compassion, leadership, and unwavering support for athletes across Oklahoma.
Earlier this year, Toney was recognized as the Volunteer of the Year for Kiamichi Area 10 in March and was subsequently selected as the overall state winner from among all area recipients.
The Volunteer of the Year Award will be formally presented on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, during the Special Olympics Oklahoma Summer Games VIP Reception at Gallagher-Iba Arena on the campus of Oklahoma State University. Toney will also be recognized during the Opening Ceremonies later that evening, a celebration that brings together athletes, coaches, volunteers, and supporters from across the state.
The evening’s schedule includes the VIP Reception and Awards Presentation beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by Opening Ceremonies at 7:00 p.m., where award recipients will be honored on stage and celebrated alongside athletes participating in the Parade of Athletes.
“Volunteers are the heart of Special Olympics, and individuals like Kodey Toney make a lasting impact on the lives of our athletes,” said Randy Weaver, Area 10 Director. “This recognition reflects not only Kodey’s commitment, but the powerful difference one person can make through service.”
