This prestigious award is presented annually to an athlete who consistently demonstrates exceptional character, a strong work ethic, and a passion for training and competition. French was selected for embodying the true spirit of Special Olympics through her perseverance, positive attitude, and dedication to becoming the best athlete she can be.
Earlier this year, French was recognized as the Kiamichi Area 10 Athlete of the Year, and she was subsequently selected as the overall state recipient from among all area honorees.
French will be formally recognized during the Special Olympics Oklahoma Summer Games, held at Gallagher-Iba Arena on the campus of Oklahoma State University. She will be honored at multiple events throughout the Games, including the VIP Reception on Wednesday, May 13, the Opening Ceremonies that evening, and the Closing Ceremonies on Thursday, May 14, where she will be recognized prior to the celebratory dance.
The Summer Games bring together athletes, coaches, volunteers, and supporters from across Oklahoma in a statewide celebration of inclusion, determination, and achievement. Opening Ceremonies will begin at 7:00 p.m. on May 13, following the VIP Reception and Awards Presentation earlier that evening.
“Manaya French represents everything Special Olympics stands for,” said Randy Weaver, Area 10 Director. “Her commitment, sportsmanship, and determination inspire everyone around her and make her truly deserving of this honor.”
French’s recognition as Athlete of the Year highlights not only her individual achievements but also the impact of dedication, perseverance, and a love of sport.
