More than 1 million Oklahoma voters cast their ballots on November 3 in the 2026 General Election. However, the total votes cast and turnout percentage for the 2026 General Election were down compared to the last two gubernatorial elections in 2022 and 2018. While the high turnout for early voting this year created optimism that participation numbers might exceed previous years, unfortunately, this did not equate to a high voter turnout overall.
We are grateful for the voters who exercised their right to vote and appreciate the thousands of poll workers and election officials who worked hard to ensure that this election was free and fair.
As election officials, we take every measure to ensure smooth and safe elections. However, we also understand that issues may arise. When that happens, our priority is to quickly resolve the matter and to alleviate any impact to our elections, but more importantly, to respond in a way that ensures fair and accurate elections. We owe that to our voters.
Last night, two county election boards – Cleveland County and Comanche County – experienced technical issues that temporarily delayed the reporting of their election results on the OK Election Results site. We want to be clear that what occurred in those counties were separate issues, and were strictly related to the reporting of the results from the county election boards to the State Election Board, and not a problem with the results themselves.
We are proud of the way our technical team, staff, and county election boards came together and responded on election night.
In Cleveland County, the issue was resolved by utilizing a backup system to upload results. In Comanche County, the election results continue to be manually entered into the election results reporting system. Our technical team, staff, and county election board offices worked nonstop throughout the night and are still working as of today, Wednesday, November 4, to provide voters and candidates accurate results.
While I understand the eagerness to have quick results, as election officials our objective is to ensure that every vote is counted and properly reported – because that is what Oklahomans have come to expect from elections here in Oklahoma. Our commitment to our voters is steadfast and we will not stop until all votes have been fully and accurately reported.
County election results will be certified Friday after 5 p.m. State and federal election results will be certified on Tuesday, November 10.
