State Rep. Jim Grego
OKLAHOMA CITY – Baylor Grego, a junior at Hartshorne High School, paged for his grandfather, Rep. Jim Grego, R-Wilburton, Feb. 23-26, at the State Capitol.
Baylor, who lives in McAlester, is the son of Justin and Kelly Grego.
During their time at the Capitol, House pages get to shadow the legislator they are paging for, attending committee meetings and sessions on the House floor. They also take part in a mock legislative session with peers from across the state. They write, present, debate and vote on their own or peer-led legislation, and they elect leaders from among themselves.
“I always enjoy having our youth come to the Capitol and sharing my knowledge on how the legislative process works,” Grego said. “It is even more rewarding when your page is your grandson. Baylor was able to take a deep dive into issues such as “scenic river” designation as well as an in-depth study into daylight saving time. These high school students will be in charge one day soon. Hopefully, I was able to instill some tools that will be helpful in their process.”
Baylor’s academic achievements include being valedictorian in middle school, completing a biomedical program and being a straight A student. His extracurricular activities include twice being a top 10 FFA auctioneering finalist, completing courses at the Western College of Auctioneering and Champions Ringman College, land judging for the Hartshorne FFA and being a benefit auctioneer.
Baylor wants to attend Texas A&M University to study oilfield engineering. He would like to work as an oil field engineer and run a cow-calf operation, like his grandfather, and continue to grow as an auctioneer to benefit his local communities.
- Baylor Grego had his picture taken with Gov. Sitt during Stitt’s first term in office – 2019.
