I am proudly announcing my bid for re-election to the Poteau city council. I have served as councilman and president of the Council for the past 20 years.
My wife, Pam and I, moved to Poteau in 1974 and raised two-children, Gwen and Matt. Gwen has three children, Sophia, Blake and Nora. Matt has two children, Ty and Beau.
I retired approximately three years ago from a 40-year career in the banking business, serving this community and the surrounding area. So needless to say, we have made this our home and are proud to say we live here in Poteau.
In my 20-year tenure on the council, we have seen ups and downs of the economy. In a recent review by OMAG (Oklahoma Municipal Assurance Group), of the city of Poteau’s financials, OMAG ranks the city of Poteau in the top 10 percent of more than 500 communities in the state of Oklahoma that are members. The review takes into consideration all aspects of our government, from management to services provided.
Therefore, taking all the above into consideration, the present City Council is performing to the standards of the oath that we take when we are elected.
We will be getting a new mayor this year and my 20 years of experience on the council will help with this transition.
Besides our accomplishments of the past, a few of the projects we are working on are improvement of city streets, improvement and expansion of Poteau Area Recreational Complex, working with the Boys and Girls Club on a new facility and always looking to help provide more jobs for our citizens.
Thank you for your consideration and I would appreciate your vote in the April 2nd election.
Clay Bennett
