I wish to give a “thank you” to Kiamichi Electric and Public Service Company of Oklahoma for their efforts to keep our electricity on after Saturday night’s severe storms rolled through our area. We tend to take for granted when we flip a switch that the lights will come on. Many of my neighbors and I were without power for nearly 20 hours. But these crews worked around the clock to restore our service.
I have gotten involved with a constitute who is experiencing some problems with the Oklahoma Real Estate Appraiser Board. This is not the first time I have had complaints against this group as it seems anyone at any time can lodge a grievance against an appraiser regardless of merit. After many conversations, this will lead to another bill I will be proposing to hold individuals who file grievances accountable somewhat.
Sometimes we can report small “wins.” For about ten years, I have been advocating for the rehabilitation of Church Lake in Wilburton, which serves as the area’s primary water source. Recently, we had reached the point as to who would pay for pipeline relocation, which would now be under the lake with its increased size. I have been working closely with the mayor to find some funding to pay for this project, which could be close to $400,000, as we were told the city would be responsible for this cost. Last week, Mayor Mayes reported to me that one of the major owners of the pipeline has agreed to step up and pay their share. Many thanks to them for their participation in this vital project. We will continue to work with the other owners as we look for additional funding to finish this.
