House Paige Olivia Shackelford and Rep. Turner
By Rep. Tim Turner
End of watch for LeFlore County Sheriff’s Deputy Thomas “Walker” LeMay came Sunday, April 19, just two days past his 30th birthday. He was killed in the line of duty when ambushed by a coward. He leaves behind a young daughter and lots of loving family members and friends, including his brothers and sisters in the law enforcement community. His funeral was held Thursday, attended by hundreds from across our area.
Also wounded in this ambush was Wister Police Chief William “Andy” Thompson.
As someone who has worn the badge and served alongside law enforcement deputies and officers in this region, such tragedy and loss hits a little too close to home. My prayers are certainly with Chief Thompson and the grieving family members and friends of Deputy LeMay. I’m thankful for the quick action of other law enforcement who apprehended the man accused in this shooting. I hope for justice to the full extent of the law
Such news never gets easier to bear, but I’m thankful for all who work every day at sacrifice to themselves to keep the rest of us safe.
On a much brighter note, I had a page serve in my House office this week.
Olivia Shackelford is a junior at Oktaha High School. Her parents are Ray Fells and Lori Powell-Fells. The family lives in Eufaula. Olivia is ranked No. 1 in her class with a 4.57 grade point average. She’s the winner of a Wichita Mountain Youth Prevention Award, a member of the National and Oklahoma Honor Societies, Student Council and Spanish Club. She serves on the Youth Action for Health Leadership Team, and she’s a co-founder of Pawsnclaws, a group of volunteers working with the city of Eufaula to find pound dogs homes so they are not put down. Olivia hopes to attend college to become a certified registered nurse anesthetist or a veterinarian.
I love Olivia’s heart to help others in her community. She’s obviously a very smart young woman with a bright future ahead of her. I wish her the very best.
When pages serve in the House, they get to shadow their legislator, attending meetings and sessions in the House chamber. They also get to take part in their own mock legislative session. It’s always great to attend these sessions as the youth really come up with some great ideas for legislation, and they have some passionate debates.
On a final note, I am honored to say I will be serving as the representative for District 15 for another two years as no one filed to run against me in this year’s election. This is a privilege I do not take lightly. Thank you to everyone who has placed their confidence in me. My family and I are proud to have this opportunity. If I can help you in my capacity as your representative, please do not hesitate to contact me at the Capitol. My office phone is (405) 557-7375, and my email is tim.turner@okhouse.gov.
Rep. Tim Turner, a Republican, represents House District 15 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. His district includes Haskell County and portions of McIntosh, Muskogee, Le Flore and Pittsburg counties.
