OKLAHOMA CITY – Rep. Tim Turner, R-Kinta, today commented on news of the death of Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame Musician Selby Minner, of Rentiesville.
Turner said it’s been confirmed by local authorities that Minner was murdered and an arrest has been made.
According to her online biography, Selby toured nonstop for 12 years with blues legend D.C. Minner before settling at his birthplace of Rentiesville. The pair were the founders of the Dusk ’til Dawn Blues Festival.
“As a child I can remember going to Dusk ’til Dawn and listening to D.C. and Selby,” Turner said. “It was truly a dusk ’til dawn event all weekend. The Rentiesville community will not be the same. We all know that Selby and D.C. are together playing some of the best blues America has ever heard.”
The Tulsa Blues Society this morning released a statement of condolence for Selby Minner, saying the Oklahoma, U.S. and worldwide blues community mourns the loss of a great person, great musician and ambassador of the blues. The statement said the Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame exists because of her tireless work. The Society said as they get information on arrangements they will share.
Selby and D.C., who died in 2008, established the Down Home Blues Club in D.C.’s grandmother Lura’s former corn whiskey house. They founded the Dusk ’til Dawn Blues Festival around 1990, both which continue to this day.
The festival has gained national attention, and presents more than 200 blues musicians for three days every Labor Day Weekend.
Rep. Tim Turner, a Republican, represents House District 15 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. His district includes Haskell County and portions of McIntosh, Muskogee, Le Flore and Pittsburg counties.
