House pages Yonariya Nichols and Rhiley Hicks stand with Rep. Jim Grego in his Capitol office.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Yonariya Nichols and Rhiley Hicks are paging for Rep. Jim Grego, R-Wilburton, April 6-9 at the State Capitol.
Both are seniors at Canadian High School. Yonariya is the daughter of Kara Masters. Rhiley is the daughter of Randy and Kerry Hicks.
During their time at the Capitol, House pages get to shadow their legislator, attending committee meetings and sessions on the House floor. They also take part in a mock legislative session with peers from across the state. They write, present, debate and vote on their own or peer-led legislation, and they elect leaders from among themselves.
“Both of these young ladies are smart and gifted,” Grego said. “They brought a lot of knowledge to the Capitol this week and a desire to learn. I always enjoy the opportunity to share my knowledge about state government and the Legislature with this younger generation as they’ll be the ones taking the reins in a few years.”
Yonariya is vice president of Student Council and on the Principal’s Honor Role. She’s scored 1,000 career points in basketball and has been named the Female Athlete of the Year and All-Conference Offensive Player of the Year. She says she tries to lead her team into doing the right things and to be the person that others can look up to. She plans to attend Randall University and play basketball while she pursues a degree in business management. After college, she wants to open her own hair and nail business.
Rhiley is ranked No. 4 in her graduating class. She has served as both junior and senior class president on Student Council. She’s achieved both Star Greenhand and Discovery Awards in FFA and has served as her chapter’s sentinel, secretary and vice president. She’s won multiple livestock swine show awards, including best showman. She plans to attend Kiamichi Technology Center to study interactive media and social media marketing. She already owns her photography business and hopes to grow it alongside social media marketing and graphic design.
Jim Grego serves District 17 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. His district includes Latimer County and part and Pittsburg County.
