Darrell Eugene Beshears, Sr. was born on July 19, 1952, in Aurora, Missouri, to Helen (Siegrist) Beshears and Clifford Virgil Beshears. He passed away on May 24, 2026, in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
If there were three words to describe Darrell, they would be faith, family, and sports. Above everything else, Darrell was a man who put his faith in God. When people say he was a good man, they are not simply being kind — they are being honest. His faith was visible in every part of his life through his generosity, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for others. He believed in walking the walk and talking the talk. One could not put it better than he did himself: “You don’t want to miss heaven.” To Darrell, that meant more than simply treating people with love, respect, and compassion. It meant having a true relationship with God and faithfully doing His will.
Darrell never missed an opportunity to show love to his family. His children and grandchildren will forever treasure memories of the stories he told and the adventures he created. Whether taking them on imaginary journeys with Colonel Jackson in 1814, flying alongside the Red Baron, standing atop mountains with Davy Crockett, singing songs, giving endless pony rides with legs that never seemed to grow tired, or dancing under the Boardwalk, Darrell gave his family the priceless gift of his time and imagination. He loved being a Pepaw. He loved being Uncle Darrell. His love for his brothers was unmatched, and they could often be found piled together on a couch with arms intertwined in laughter and fellowship.
Darrell shared an enduring and devoted love with his wife, Linda. While working in Kansas City, he would always say every Thursday afternoon that he needed to get home because he had a “hot date” waiting for him. Those who knew him are all better for having loved and been loved by him.
Sports were one of Darrell’s greatest passions and brought him endless joy. From his younger days playing at the Boys Club, through high school and university athletics, to church leagues and coaching T-ball, Darrell simply loved the game. Backyard football, fishing trips, horse rides, softball at the 40, basketball games of HORSE, and even checkers — he enjoyed them all. Watching sports, playing sports, talking sports — his mind naturally drifted there. Looking back, Sundays reflected his life perfectly: church, family lunch, and Sunday afternoon football.
