Superintendent Jimmy Dale Frazier, Sr. was born on August 2, 1954, in Pocola, Oklahoma, to the late Lucille Cummings Taylor and Elish W. Frazier, Jr.
He attended Pocola Public Schools, where he excelled in academics but also in basketball and baseball before graduating in 1971. In June 1972, Jimmy enlisted in the United States Army, where he faithfully served his country, including overseas service, until receiving an honorable discharge in October 1975. During that same year, his first daughter, Chandler Montgomery Dixon, was born.
In the spring of 1976, he married Leslye Ann Chambers. To this union were born two children, Jimmy Dale Frazier, Jr. and LaTisha Sherlynn Frazier. Never one to stop learning, he earned an Associate Degree in Business from Carl Albert State College during the 1980s.
Years later met and married Margo Wyvonne Sims of Muskogee, Oklahoma on August 10, 1985. Together they built a home centered on faith, family, and service. To their union was born one daughter, Samantha Nadia Frazier.
Jimmy worked faithfully throughout his life. He was employed for many years at Rheem Manufacturing before learning the plumbing trade under the guidance of his uncle, Samuel Cummings. After earning his plumbing license, he worked with Cummings and Sons Plumbing before establishing his own business, J.D. Frazier Services. As a respected contractor and plumber, he became known for his dependability, strong work ethic, and willingness to help others. He never officially retired, continuing to work for family and friends until the Lord called him home.
Raised in the Church of God in Christ, He was a member of Macedonia Temple Church of God in Christ under the pastoral leadership of Superintendent Jessie L. Pointer. After accepting Christ as his Savior, he devoted himself to the work of the ministry. He faithfully served in the Young People’s Willing Workers (Y.P.W.W.) Department and was later appointed Youth President of Fort Coffee Church of God in Christ. He dedicated countless hours to mentoring young people, often using his own time and resources to ensure they had the opportunity to attend church and learn about the Lord.
Answering God’s call to ministry, He received his Minister’s License in the late 1990s and his Elder’s License in the year 1996. He was appointed pastor of Fort Coffee Church of God in Christ, where he faithfully served under the leadership of Superintendent Jessie L. Pointer until Superintendent Pointer’s passing in 2000.
Following that season, God expanded his ministry through the founding of Revelation Church of God in Christ. In 2001, while faithfully serving as pastor of Revelation Church of God in Christ, the late Bishop Fred D. Lawson, Jr. appointed Elder Frazier as Superintendent of the McAlester District of the Oklahoma Southeast Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ. Following Bishop Lawson’s passing, Superintendent Frazier continued to serve the district faithfully under the leadership of Bishop Malcolm W. Coby Ph.D. for the next 24 years.
During his tenure as District Superintendent, he was asked to oversee Faith Temple Church of God in Christ following the passing of Elder Mitchell Lee and was later officially appointed pastor by Bishop Coby. He also worked diligently to strengthen and expand the McAlester District, helping to encourage and revitalize churches in Broken Bow and Valliant Oklahoma. He was committed to excellence in ministry and worked tirelessly to ensure the work of the district was carried out with integrity and faithfulness. He loved the church, working in the ministry and the people of God. He was very conscientious in making sure that the McAlester District was always in compliance and that the finances were always in the office, 100 percent!!
He leaves to cherish his precious memory his devoted wife of nearly 41 years, District Missionary Margo Wyvonne Frazier of Fort Smith, Arkansas; one son, Jimmy Dale Frazier, Jr. of Fort Smith, Arkansas; three daughters, Chandler Montgomery Dixon of Pocola, Oklahoma, LaTisha Sherlynn Frazier of Fort Smith, Arkansas, and Samantha Nadia Frazier Kelley (Brian) of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
He is also survived by one brother, Stephen Taylor, Jr. (Marilynn); two sisters, Evangelist Missionary Theresa Elaine Lawrence of Fort Smith, Arkansas, and Evangelist Missionary Lajuanna Lee Taylor of Pocola, Oklahoma; sixteen beloved grandchildren: Ian, Micah (whom he lovingly raised as his own daughter), Zaiyah, Justice, Davin, Jayla, Josiah, Kenzlee, Jordyn, Braylon, Katera, Bre, Elijah, Andrew, Lilly, and Zion; six great-grandchildren; and a host of cherished uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, church family, and countless friends whose lives were forever touched by his love, wisdom, and unwavering faith.
Though his earthly labor has ended, Superintendent J.D. Frazier, Sr.’s legacy of faith, service, leadership, and love will continue through the countless lives he touched. His family rejoices in the promise that one day they will see him again, where he now rests in wait of the general resurrection. Until that trumpet sounds on that great getting up morning, His words will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him:
“Serving the Lord will pay off afterwhile.”
Celebration of Life for Jimmy Dale Frazier, 71 of Fort Smith, Arkansas will be at 12:00 PM on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at Victory Worship Center in Spiro, Oklahoma. Burial will be held 11:00 AM on Monday, August 10, 2026 at National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.
Viewing and visitation will be Thursday, August 6, 2026 and Friday, August 7, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM at the Pocola Funeral Home.
