“Open Again.” That’s the word from the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department about our state park restaurants. I’m hopeful an agreement has been worked out which will be a permanent fix. As you know, last Tuesday, the restaurant vendor was ordered to vacate over some outstanding payments due the state. This week, an agreement has been worked out that will allow them to reopen. This is a situation where we need them as much as they need us. Let’s hope this is a permanent resolution. We will see.
It’s almost “interim study” time at the Capitol. I have been requested to facilitate three. My studies will cover three unique areas. One pertains to our feral pig overpopulation; one will look into our rural water systems and try to determine their needs and possible solutions for infrastructure upgrades; I also have been asked to study state agency employee pay as it compares to industry as well as to other states. These studies have been requested. I will know later this month which if any will be approved.
Wilburton Airport has been awarded some much needed funding in the form of state and federal grants. These monies will be spent on a new box hanger as well as a taxilane apron. I believe Oklahoma is poised to become a leader in aerospace industries. When this becomes a reality, hopefully our airport will be able to capture some of this growth, which will benefit all of southeast Oklahoma.
