DONALD LOYD EMERSON Born in Poteau, Oklahoma on February 18, 1945 and left us peacefully on March 24, 2023 at the age of 78 years old. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Loyd and Ruby (Shores) Emerson, One half- brother James Leslie Emerson and One great grandchild Paxton Beam.
He is survived by his long- time mate and the love of his life, Kathy Phillips of the home, Brother Randy Emerson of Panama, Oklahoma, Daughter Michelle Ross and Chris of Greenbrier, Arkansas, Son Bobby Emerson and Tracey of Heber Springs, Arkansas, Daughter Jeannette Lightfoot and Jackie of Perkins, OK. He is further survived by Nephews, Shad Adair, Ryan and Curtis Emerson and Niece Kerri Emerson.
“Grandpa Don” leaves behind Granddaughters: Chessy (Ross) Markham (Frankie), Holly (Ross) Stewart (Jerry), Megan, and Erin Beam, Brooklyn (Beam) Hutcherson (Jeff) and Bethany Emerson. Grandsons: Justin Emerson (Madison), Braxton, Blaze and Nathan Emerson, JJ and Jace Lightfoot. He also leaves behind nine Great Grandchildren, one Unborn Great Grandchild and many more to come. as well as a host of other family members and friends.
He Retired from his much loved and lifelong Career as an Iron Worker hanging Iron and Walking Beams all over the United States. He was a 50- year member out of Tulsa Local Union 584 of the International Association of Bridge, Structural Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers. He also spent a number of years working on the Alaskan Pipeline where he also acquired stories to tell.
He will be missed by many and his memory will live forever in each of those that knew and loved him. He loved telling his “Don” stories and loved even more listening to other people laugh, shake their head while telling the “Don” stories.
The family invites you to come and celebrate his life with them.
Visitation will be held at Evans and Miller Funeral Home in Poteau, Oklahoma on Wednesday April 5, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Funeral Services will be held at Evans and Miller Funeral Home in Poteau, Oklahoma with Jim Cook Officiating on Thursday April 6, 2023 at 1:00 PM
Immediately following the funeral, a graveside service will be held at Old Bokoshe Cemetery, Bokoshe Oklahoma.
Pallbearers will be Charles “Blue Jay” Henderson, Curtis Emerson, Ryan Emerson, Heath Cosgrove, Mike Summers, and Charlie Thomas.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Carl Cosgrove, and Preston Porter.
