Douglas Brown of Pocola, Oklahoma formally of Dustin, Oklahoma was born July 22, 1926 in Clayton, Oklahoma and passed away June 4, 2018 in Pocola, Oklahoma at the age of 91.
He is survived by; four daughters; Juanita Florene Hartford of Cookeville, Tennessee, Marvene Jane Leverette and husband William of Mulberry, Arkansas, Eula Irene Fisher of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Cathy Merryman and husband Earl Lee of Farmington, Arkansas, one son; Michael Drew Brown of Farmington, Arkansas, 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Opal Lorene Brown, one son Johnny Mack Brown, two grandchildren, Bruce Hartford, Jr. and Anita Hartford, two son’s in law, Bruce Hartford, Sr. and Wiley Fisher, 6 sisters and 3 brothers. Douglas enlisted in the US Army to be with his brother, Hartsel whom was later killed in action, he was a member of the First Calvary where he was able to peruse his love for horses by training them.
Douglas enjoyed old cars and working on them as well but his goal in life was serving the lord, preaching his word, and singing praise to God.
Douglas spent his last days in a room with his brother in law and best, lifelong friend, Joe Price.
Funeral services will be held 10am Friday June 11th at the Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Jared Brown officiating.
Burial will take place at 1pm in the Dustin City Cemetery in Dustin, Oklahoma under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Spiro.
Viewing will be 9am-7pm Thursday with family and friends visitation being held from 5pm-7pm.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and honorary pallbearer will be Joe Price.
