Jerry proudly enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1970, where he served as a machinist and sharpshooter. His service took him to Vietnam, and later to Sigon, Korea. After his military service, Jerry returned home to care for his family and pursued a career in truck driving. He received his CDL license and went on to drive for Schneider Trucking, eventually becoming a trainer/driver. Jerry also worked for Bestway Transportation, where he met the love of his life, Sandra, and they were later married. He continued driving until his health required him to retire.
Jerry had a deep passion for his family, and his greatest joy was spending time with them. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He also enjoyed watching football, westerns, and cherished the visits and calls from his grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Raylene Wisdom-Cox; sons David Lee Cox and wife Machonee, William Floyd Cox and wife Cindy, and John Wayne Medlock, Jr.; grandchildren Amanda Cox-Peake and husband Kenny, Sierra Breann Medlock, Justin Lee Medlock, Chris, Dexter, Shawn, Kristopher, Evan, and Sarah; great grandchildren Xaileighbelle, Jazper, and Jaizyn Peake; geat great-grandchildren Milo, Trent, Lil K, and Everleigh; as well as uncle Lawrence Eugene Thompson, and cousin Cindy Myers and husband Roger.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at 6:00 PM on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau, Oklahoma, with Reverend Jim Reed officiating. The service is under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.
