JoAnn Batt, 46, of Arkoma, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, surrounded by the love of her family. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing she is now healed, at peace, and reunited with loved ones gone before her.
JoAnn was born on May 28, 1979, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She devoted more than 20 years of her life to teaching and pouring into the lives of children she loved deeply. Whether in Arkoma or Arkansas classrooms, she was more than a teacher — she was a safe place, a listening ear, and a source of encouragement to countless students and families. Her kindness, patience, and heart for others left a lasting impact that will never be forgotten.
JoAnn loved the Lord with all her heart. She found joy in worship music, church, family gatherings, laughter, and the simple moments spent with the people she loved most. She had a beautiful way of making everyone feel welcome, valued, and cared for. Her love was steady, selfless, and unconditional.
Above all else, JoAnn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her family was the center of her world, and she loved fiercely and wholeheartedly. The memories she created, the lessons she taught, and the love she gave so freely will continue to live on through all who knew her.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Anna Belle Young; her sisters, Joyce Ann Shackelford and Melissa Gibbs; her father-in-law, Jeff Batt; her mother-in-law, Darla Sue Ross; and her brother-in-laws, Robert Holt and Jeff Shackelford.
She is survived by her loving husband, Shawn Batt; her children, Skylar Batt, Nakiyah Perry and her wife Kennedy Perry, and CharLee Rose Batt; her beloved grandchildren, Whitley Shae and River Lee Batt; her sister, Tamatha Holt and her nephews, Bryce, Kyle, Wyatt, Ryker Holt, Jameson Shackleford, and Joshua Gibbs; her sister-in-law, Melissa Batt Ridgway and husband Andy; her nieces, Paisley Carter and Hadley Ridgway; her biological father, Jo Cornell; her cherished fur baby, Zoey; along with many other relatives, lifelong friends, students, and loved ones whose lives were forever touched by her presence.
