Leota Faye Carter, 87, of Pocola, Oklahoma, passed away on August 11, 2026, in Van Buren, Arkansas. She was born on November 1, 1938, in Pocola, Oklahoma, to Della (Nichols) Ferrell and Therrell Spangler.
Leota married Dan Carter, Sr. on February 17, 1962, in Spiro, Oklahoma. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her family and her faith. Leota loved to travel and shop, spend time with her grandchildren, and cook delicious desserts for family gatherings. She also enjoyed camping and fishing, but most importantly, she loved serving the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Leota is survived by her husband  Dan Carter, Sr. of the home; three sons, Dan Carter, Jr. and wife Kaye of Poteau, Oklahoma, Jeff Carter and wife Sylvia of Pocola, Oklahoma, and Preston Carter of Tontitown, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Stephannie Carter, Samantha Carter, Daniel Carter III, Desi Attee, Derek Carter, Breanna Carter, and Dustin Carter; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Evans Chapel of Memories in Pocola, Oklahoma, with Tim Cothran officiating. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas at a later date under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.
Viewing and visitation will be Friday August 14, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM at Evans Chapel of Memories in Pocola.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
