Funeral Services for Mavis Tobler, 89 of Spiro, Oklahoma will be at 1:00pm on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at First Baptist Church in Spiro, Oklahoma with Reverend James Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Spiro City Cemetery in Spiro, Oklahoma under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home. The family will visit with friends from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Friday at the funeral home.
Mavis Christine Tobler was born on March 26, 1934 to Walter Samuel and Janie Josephine (Hickman) Boyd and passed away on June 27, 2023 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Enie Tobler, Jr., her daughter, Donna Kerns, and her sisters, Rosetta Whitehead, Freda Whitehead, Sylvia Haywood, Mildred Snow, and Comella Bone.
Survivors include her son Enie Tobler III and wife Rhonda, son-in-law David Kerns and special friend Mary Hunter, grandchildren Garon Kerns and wife Janelle, Kristin Perdue, and Chris Tobler and wife Michelle, great-grandchildren Tori Kerns, Jaxon Perdue, Emma Perdue, Adrion Kerns, and Scarlett Tobler, sister Irma Barrigan, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and loved ones.
Mavis excelled in the marching band where she was crowned Queen (a favorite memory), was a member of the National Honor Society, and was chosen to attend Girls State in 1950. She was an avid sports fan, an enjoyment she inherited from her father, she was a voracious reader, and was completely devoted to the love of her life, “Toby,” for over 70 years. For this devotion, she was certainly deserving of an award. Mavis met Enie while working at the McAlester Naval Ammunition Depot. Mavis and Enie were married on June 27, 1952. Mavis loved her children, Donna and Enie, dearly. She also spoke often of her love for her son-in-law David. Mavis never failed to call her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren on their birthdays to sing the sweetest rendition of “Happy Birthday” you’ve ever heard. While her husband Enie was a highly respected businessman, his success would not have been possible without her by his side. Mavis was a multi-winner of the “Yard of the Month” award, never missed her morning workout routine, enjoyed her role as the family historian, scheduled her life around major college basketball games on television, and lived for Christmas each year with her cherished family. She was a proud member of the Spiro First Baptist Church for almost 70 years.
Honorary Pallbearers will be family members; Chris Tobler, Garon Kerns, Adrion Kerns, Jaxon Perdue, David Kerns, and Steve Cherry.
