Robert Mitchell Floyd, 74, rested in the arms of his Savior on June 24, 2024. Born in Poteau on January 18, 1950 to Linda Francis (Jones) and Sherman Phillip Floyd, Bob was a Poteau resident for 69 years. His health declined in 2018 and he was eventually admitted to the Norman Veterans Center. After Bob was diagnosed with cancer last year, the angels at Frontier Hospice visited him and made sure he was comfortable. Their regular updates to Bob’s mother and the facilitation of Facetime and phone calls so Bob and his mom could communicate gave them both such peace. Hospice employees, along with the wonderful staff at the veterans’ center have been a blessing to both Bob and Linda.

Bob graduated from Poteau High School in 1969. He attended Carl Albert State College for two years, went to Southeastern Oklahoma State University and then joined the Air Force, serving four years, two in Alaska in the security division. After his discharge, he joined the Air National Guard in Ft. Smith and earned a degree in criminal justice from Northeastern State University. Bob worked for the Department of Corrections and was assigned to Hodgen prison where he retired after 20 years. After retirement, he worked at the electrical plant, and in the security department at the Choctaw Casino in Pocola.

When Bob wasn’t working, he enjoyed golf and his friendships at the Choctaw Country Club. He loved his family and his cousins were very dear to him. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Poteau his whole life.

Bob is survived by his mother, Linda; two nephews, Scott (Heather), Michael (Stephanie); brother-in-law, Mick (Peggy), a grandniece, Micah, two grandnephews, Brennen and Garrett; all of Edmond, OK, an uncle Curt Floyd (Donna) of Dallas, Texas; an aunt Judy Jones Milholland of Yukon and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Sherman; sister, Toni Thompson and brother, John.

Services are Saturday, June 29 at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church, with a visitation lunch at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Frontier Hospice, 2782 Washington Drive, Suite 100, Norman, OK 73069 or https://frontierhospice.com/make_a_donation.php
