Vera Roberta Shupert Trout

Vera Roberta Shupert Trout was born on September 13, 1930, in Heavener, OK, the only child of Fred & Pauline Shupert. She died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026, at the Heavener Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, four days after her 96th birthday. The Shupert family endured the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl. With the coming of World War II, her father took work in the naval yards of Washington, D.C. where Vera would graduate from high school. At war’s end, the family moved to Grove, OK, where Fred and Pauline opened a Ben Franklin store and became involved in local organizations, including the new Grand Lake Association and the Grove Brush & Palette Club. Vera helped with the store. She soon met Bob Trout, whose family also ran a business in Grove. They were married on June 4, 1950, and set out on a lifetime of adventure. His career would take them to Kansas City, New Orleans, then back to Grove where they would acquire the Ben Franklin store when Fred and Pauline retired. They joined the First Baptist Church of Grove. Later they moved to Austin, Texas; Orlando, Florida; Gastonia, North Carolina, and then back to Grove.

Vera and Bob traveled extensively, with trips throughout the US, to Europe, Canada, and Hawaii, though neither ever considered themselves retired. Vera was active in promoting Bible curriculum in public schools, while Bob taught Sunday school classes and was a deacon. Vera was an avid reader, a great cook, a political conservative, but most of all a devout follower of Jesus Christ. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Bob died on March 5, 2018, in the couple’s 67th year of marriage. Vera continued to live in their home until age-related illness required full-time nursing care. In October 2024, she relocated to the Heavener facility to be near her eldest daughter. The couple had three daughters, all of whom survive; Kimberly Jones of Howe, OK, Tracey Quinn of Rockport, Texas, and Lesley Macomber of Grove. Also surviving are ten grandchildren: Jeremy, Bryan, Jason and David R. Jones, Laura Jones, Kristina Hamilton; Megan Consedine, Michael Macomber, and Britttany Anderson; and Delaney Quinn. There are twenty-three great-grandchildren: Blakely Consedine; Natalie Hamilton; Joseph, Katherine, Tommy, Maria and Michael Jones; Irina, Aria, Naomi, Ezra and Aila Jones; Hayden, Lucia, Lydia, Simon, Leah, Lily and Samuel Jones; and Kenna, Elijah, Liam and Evelyn (Evie) Jones.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Pauline Shupert, and by her husband, Bob.

The Celebration of Life Services for Vera will be held at 2pm – Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, at the First Baptist Church of Grove 501 E 13th St, Grove, Oklahoma with the Rev. Jim Pasley officiating and burial to follow in Olympus Cemetery in Grove, Oklahoma. The Family of Vera Trout will greet friends from 12:30pm to 2pm on Friday, September 25, 2026, also at First Baptist Church of Grove. Casket bearers will be David Jones, Michael Macomber, Bryan Jones, Jason Jones, Davy Jones, and Brett Quinn.
