Ya know, occasionally, I get caught up with the Live Music on stage under the bright lights. The musicians are ripping it up, jumpin’ and twirlin’ and well, maybe not the more seasoned older musicians. They are moaning and groaning after unloading all that heavy equipment. Some have some mighty comfortable picking chairs/guitar stands that are used for those TWO hr. gigs. Man, the dances we used to play would start at 9 pm and go til 2 am. We worked hard for our $50 then. Anyway, It was pointed out that I was slippin’ on any info bout pickin’s, jams and such. So at least when I have the news of one, it will not be forgotten. But I do need reminders bout dates and times.

In Downtown Poteau, the Pocket Park has been improved and almost ready for use. I think it will be available to rent for shows, concerts and celebrations. It would be cool if someone would pick up the torch and start a jam session this Spring. I’ll get more info on that soon.

Just ‘cross the line, Gregg and Rita Shively have hosted the “Pickin’ in the Round” in Waldron, Ark. for 5 yrs. now. Still goin’ strong. Here’s the info so you can plan on catching the one next month. And I quote- “5 years- Good folks and Good music- Original and traditional songs-Acoustic/Electric, bring your own equip- Free, NO cussin’, NO fussin’, NO Alcohol-1st Thursday each Month, 6-9pm- Come when ya can, Leave when ya gotta- Scott Co. Memorial Hall- 96 S. Main St. Waldron- for info call Gregg or Rita at 479-270-4501, Y’all come join us”. Purty cut and dried. Thanks for the invite. Hope to see ya soon.

Live Music this week: Friday 14th, “The Lawman Band” will be on stage and keepin’ it Country at the Ft. Smith Senior Activity Center on Cavanaugh Rd. Great place to meet up with friends and dance the early evening away. The music starts at 7 pm.

“59 South” will be at Dawn’s Diner/Red Oak on Friday 14th. This band is loaded with talent, too. This four piece group has all the standard instruments for a Country/Rock bunch AND Piano, Sax, Two Harmonicas, a Tambourine and I think I heard a Triangle in the mix They will keep the dance lively, seasoned with enuf slow dances to fall in love or at least shop around for the girl that will be Miss Valentine 2025. Music starts at 6:30. Kudos to the guys for a great job with the dinner music at the Friends of the Ranch/Howe 6:33 Recovery fundraiser. Real Classy with a perfect selection of Spiritual tunes. You could feel the Presence of God in the room. And me and a whole bunch of other folks were singin’ praises’ with you. Just an Awesome job.

“J.J. Taylor and Bourbon Highway” will have a show at La Heurta’s/Poteau on Sat. 15th. J.J. is one of my favorite singer/songwriters. It will be a nite of great music. Grab a bite and giv’em a listen. Music from 7-10pm. See ya there.

St. Patrick’s Day Dance- Muldrow City Limits- Wear lots of Green! “Backroads” will be playing the Country jigs(Don’t worry, ya can still line dance to Irish jigs), music starts at 7pm. BUT the doors open at 6 so load your favorite grub up, it’s a Pot-Luck Nite, too. David and Shelia say Y’all all come dance.

That ain’t all that I got to say but it seems to be a good place to shutup. Contact me on fb, text 918-649-5736 or tj.wiles61@outlook.com. Keep Supporting Local bands and Live Music. They appreciate it. Thanks.
