Welcome to my weekly commissioners’ corner. The heat continues throughout District 2.
Many area schools are starting back. I know Fanshawe schools started back on August 2nd. Many more start this week. Please be mindful of school zones or school bus stops. Do not pass a bus when the flag is out. I’ve had the opportunity to visit with several area school personnel over the past couple of weeks. We have amazing schools in Leflore County. If you have the chance to support them do it, they are taking care of the future generation.
Work began in and around Panama this week. I appreciate Panama Mayor Mickey Hale and Chief of Police Eddie Seaton for making the start of these projects go smoothly. They truly care for their town and it shows. Roads are already looking great. I am excited to see the finished project.
Crews will start back up on the Pocahontas/Mine Road project on Tuesday. They will be applying fresh oil, if possible you may want to take a different route, and I know that’s not always possible for everyone. It is already looking great. Please be patient while driving in that area with the crews or any road crews, not just in District 2 but around the county.
This week I was able to help out by supplying a rubber tire loader and a blade at the rodeo arena to remove all debris from the arena and then help level the arena. A big thank you to Tommy Caldwell for providing a screener to make the rodeo arena safer for the athletes and horses.
