DHS Springs into Foster Care by Planting a Peace Rose
Poteau – Thursday, March 7 is a day to “Spring into Foster Care.” This Statewide Awareness Day is designed to further community awareness around foster care and adoption in Oklahoma, particularly the need for more safe, loving foster homes for Oklahoma’s children in state custody.
Events are being held around the state, and LeFlore County is no exception. Join us at the Foster Care and Adoption Information Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, at the Donald W. Reynolds Center in Poteau.
This event will provide information about becoming a foster or adoptive parent, available support services and fun activities for the whole family.
In honor of Statewide Awareness Day, foster care recruitment staff planted a peace rose as a symbol of the peace foster parents bring by opening their homes and hearts to children in need. There are currently 114 children in state custody in LeFlore County.
By becoming a foster parent, you will help to ensure the children in your care receive the safe, loving home they deserve every day. As the rose continues to grow, staff will attach ribbons to reflect when children achieve a permanent placement through successful reunification with their biological families or through adoption.
