Poteau, OKLAHOMA – Each year The Harps Corporation holds a Charity Golf Classic, over the last 20 years the Harps Golf Tournament has raised more than $2.3 million and has helped over 550 charities.

These charities are spread out over the communities where Harps stores are located. This year a portion of the proceeds from the tournament were donated to The Women’s Crisis Center in Poteau.

The Women’s Crisis Center received a $2500.00 donation, “we sincerely appreciate the donation,” said Jeannie Thompson, Shelter Manager. Since June the shelter has served 60 women and 54 children, and the donation will greatly benefit these families.”

“Harps strives to help the community we serve,” said, David Evans store Manager at Price Cutter in Poteau, “donations are raised through the golf classic and then distributed through the Christmas for Communities Program,” said Evans.

 

Teresa Newby, the General Merchandising Manager at Price Cutter nominated the Woman’s Crisis Center to receive the donation.

 

The center provides relief and support for persons who have suffered physical or emotional abuse as a result of family violence, stalking and sexual assault; to empower women and children who have lived in violent relationships and those who are survivors of stalking and sexual assault by utilizing the concept of individual worth, choice, self-determination and independence; to assist these persons to utilize community resources for the establishment of healthy family relationships and self-growth, to eradicate the myths and ignorance by enlightening and educating our community; to advocate unceasingly for a non-violent society.
