William “Bill” Clee Gentry of Poteau, Oklahoma was born December 28, 1947 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Belford Warren and Martha Mildred (Meharg) Gentry and passed away at his home on August 11, 2025 in Poteau, Oklahoma at the age of 77.

Sara Chesney and husband Colton of McAlester, Oklahoma

Five grandchildren:

Hank and Graham Brigance

Bailey, Molly, and Blake Chesney

His two cousins:

John Gentry and wife Karen of Chickasha, Oklahoma

Thresa Moser of Lawton, Oklahoma

His four nephews:

Bret and Nancy Moser

Brad and Sharman Moser

Gary and Mandy Adcock

Joe and Tiffany Adcock

Several great nieces and great nephews

Numerous other loved ones and a host of friends

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Belford and Mildred Gentry of Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Bill, a proud graduate of Chickasha High School and Oklahoma State University, was honored to be inducted into the CHS Athletic Hall of Fame. He dedicated his life to his three beloved daughters, actively participating in their lives through school events, traveling volleyball and softball games, and creating cherished memories together, including family dinners on the patio and their beloved fork-free spaghetti Sundays.

An avid supporter of the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Bill also had a special place in his heart for Pete’s Pet Posse and enjoyed maintaining his first car, a classic ’57 Chevy affectionately named “Sam.” With a fulfilling career spanning 29 years in Clinical Psychology at Oklahoma State University, he touched the lives of many.

In 2023, Bill and his wife Sonja relocated to Poteau to be closer to their grandchildren, cementing their commitment to family. Together, they celebrated 42 years of marriage. Bill’s warmth and kindness will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

A memorial service to honor Bill’s life will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Cremation Center of Poteau, Oklahoma. “LeFlore County’s Only On-Site Crematory”
