Earnest Jay Johnson, son of Johnny Johnson and Brezola (Gaye) Johnson was born on September 11, 1930 in Redbird, Oklahoma. He was the first born of ten children. Early in his life he married Gladys Blocker to this union four children were born; Richard JD, Vernon O’Lene, Terry Wayne and Gary Don Johnson. Later in life Earnest married Vivian Montgomery, his last marriage was to Versa Mae (McKinney) Johnson who preceded him in death, seventeen years ago. He worked at the Halsum Bakery for fifteen years later he worked at Petit Jean Lumber Company for many years then later worked and retired from Rheem Manufacturing Company.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Richard JD Johnson, Terry Wayne Johnson; five siblings, Beatrice (Johnson) Chandler, Betsy (Johnson) and her husband Carl Manley, Johnny Johnson, Gladys (Johnson) Shoate, Doyle Johnson and one daughter-in-law, Rezella Johnson.
He loved doing mechanical work and fishing. Earnest departed this life Thursday, April 8, 2021.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Vernon O’Lene (Johnson) Phillips of Spiro, Oklahoma ; son, Gary Don Johnson of Spiro, Oklahoma; one sister, Alice Mae Johnson of California; three brothers, Charles (Bobbie Joe) Johnson of California, Thurman Johnson of California, Dallas (Susan) Johnson of Anchorage, Alaska, two grandchildren, Loard E, Phillips, Jr., Lameisha M. Phillips; five great grandchildren, five step children, a host of step grandchildren, brother-in-law, Leroy Shoate of Spiro, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Elsie Mae Johnson of Spiro, Oklahoma and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be 1:00pm Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Fort Coffee Cemetery in Fort Coffee, Oklahoma under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home in Spiro, Oklahoma. Viewing will be Friday 9:00am-7:00pm at the funeral home.
